Forget red Solo cups and sticky basement floors—fraternity lawns across the United States are officially swapping keg stands for cold plunges.
Reporting directly from what Gen Z has dubbed a “wellness darty” (daytime party), CNN correspondent Julia Vargas Jones profiled Sweat & Soak, a mobile health and recovery company fueling an alcohol-free revolution on college campuses.

Inside the “Wellness Darty”
A traditional collegiate “darty” typically revolves around binge day-drinking, blasting bass, and hungover afternoons. Sweat & Soak flips the script by keeping the loud music, camaraderie, and high-energy social atmosphere—while substituting the beer with:
- Mobile barrel saunas and ice-filled cold plunges
- Pre-party runs, yoga mats, and high-intensity group workouts
- Electrolyte stations, adaptogenic supplements, and post-workout matcha
As founder Marty Mocs told The New York Times, “The whole emphasis is to still have that high-energy, party-like atmosphere that college students crave—doing it in a way where you’re going to feel good after”.
Rooted in Heritage, Purpose, and Resilience
Sweat & Soak was founded by Mocs, a 24-year-old Liberty University graduate who launched the venture after navigating his mother’s passing. Drawing inspiration from his Baltic heritage and traditional sauna culture—where cold plunges and heat exposure serve as core rituals of community healing—Mocs built the brand to bring wellness to an age group typically priced out of luxury recovery studios.
Beyond physical well-being, the company incorporates community service and awareness initiatives, frequently partnering with organizations dedicated to women’s heart health and breast cancer research.
A Broader Cultural Shift: “Mindful Socializing”
The viral rise of wellness darties reflects deeper demographic trends among Gen Z:
- The Sober-Curious Movement: As highlighted by culture outlets like Mashable, college students are increasingly seeking third spaces that focus on mental health, safety, and longevity over destructive habits.
- Balance Over Total Abstinence: Rather than outright destroying traditional nightlife, students told Her Campus that wellness events provide a healthier alternative that fits into an overall desire for lifestyle balance.
Campus Expansion
Sweat & Soak’s campus tour has already engaged or slated events for Greek life and student bodies at major institutions, including:
- West Coast: USC, UCLA, UC Irvine (UCI), and San Diego State University (SDSU)
- Midwest & East Coast: University of Wisconsin–Madison, UMass, and James Madison University (JMU)
- South & Southeast: University of Miami, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), and University of Florida (UF)
