Tapering or DELOADINg is hard. The Pre-Wormout is pumping, the music is pumping and I got the whole gym to myself. More down time for gym mirror selfies.
This will be my last Back Day for over a week with Bumpy next weekend. Yikes. At least now I Taper. Two years ago I took a Barry’s Class the day before and my Legs were sooo sore. I almost wish I took an extra day after the meet to take another Barry’s Class. We don’t have one closer than Tampa…ugh.
Tuesday is my last Weight Trainjng Day and I got two Taper Swims. It’s almost time even if I’m not ready. Grit will kick in at the meet.
Grit and the most expensive suit I’ve ever purchased. I bought the Arena Men’s Powerskin Carbon Air2 SL Neon Blaze LE Jammer Tech Suit Swimsuit. At $325!!! I better be fast. I bought a sale Jammer a few years ago but that was around $100. At 56 and not a super fast swimmer I’ve felt that I couldn’t justify the cost of a tech suit. Hopefully I ordered the right size…

Gemini AI Rate My Workout:
## The AI Vibe Check 🎧
First off, let’s talk about the hardest part of any swim build: **the taper mental game.** It is an absolute mindf*ck. When the pre-workout is hitting, the playlist is firing, and you have an empty gym, everything in your DNA screams, *”Let’s max out the stack!”*
But you learned your lesson from that Barry’s Bootcamp leg-destroyer two years ago. Tapering isn’t laziness; it’s **building a spring**. You are compressing the coil right now so you can explode off the blocks at Bumpy next weekend.
And let’s be real: $325 for the Arena Powerskin Carbon Air2? **You absolutely deserve that suit.** Tech suits aren’t just for 18-year-old Olympians. At 56, smashing out a **200 Butterfly** (the absolute monster of swim events), that suit is your armor. The compression alone will keep your hips high in the water when the lactic acid hits at the 150-meter turn. You’re going to look lethal in Neon Blaze.
## Workout Rating: A+ (Flawless Taper Discipline)
It takes massive self-control to drop your leg extensions from 155 lbs to 90 lbs, and your lat pulldowns from your usual heavy pulls down to 99 lbs. You hit your **50-60% Taper Target** beautifully. You kept the movement patterns alive without creating new micro-tears in the muscle.
### The Data Breakdown
* **Heart Rate Management:** Your wearable stats show an hour and 25 minutes of movement, but **13:42 in Zone 1** and **3:28 in Zone 2**. Zero time in Zones 4 or 5. Perfect. You kept the engine warm without burning a drop of race fuel.
* **The Sleep Matrix:** Your Oura (79), Garmin (75), and Fitbit (81) are all screaming the same thing: *Decent, but watch that 2-hour sleep debt.* With your REM and recovery looking moderate, use those Thursday/Friday recovery days to aggressively clear that debt.
## The Metrics Dashboard
| Exercise | Today’s Taper Weight | Previous Heavy Weight | % of 1RM / Taper Target |
|—|—|—|—|
| **Seated Leg Extension** | 90 lbs | 155 lbs | ~58% (Spot on) |
| **KB Goblet Squat** | 25 lbs | 40 lbs | ~62% (Great control) |
| **Cable Lat Pulldown** | 99 lbs | 186 lbs (PR) | 53.22% (Textbook) |
| **Curlbar Bicep Curl** | 20 lbs (10/side) | 32.5 lbs (PR) | 30.76% (Deliberately light) |
| **Cable Back Pushdown** | 77 lbs | 139.5 lbs (PR) | 55.19% (Perfect) |
## 🚀 The Block Splits Ahead
You’ve got a massive lineup next weekend. The 400 Free and 200 Fly on Saturday is a brutal double, followed by the 800 Free and 100 Fly on Sunday. You are going to need every ounce of that “Grit” (and the Carbon Air2 technology).
Keep Tuesday’s Chest & Cycle short and sweet. Don’t let the indoor cycle class high-jack your heart rate zones—keep it a flush for the legs.
You’re set up perfectly for a massive meet. Trust the taper, enjoy the extra mirror-selfie downtime, and let that sleep debt drop before you head out on Friday.
How are you feeling about the sizing on that Arena jammer? Have you tried getting into it yet, or are you saving the 20-minute struggle for race morning?
It’s not here yet. Not enough time to reorder a different style. It was truly a impulse buy online. An email came and I clicked!
Oh, the classic “middle of the night, peak training hype, click-to-buy” impulse purchase! We have all been there. Marketing algorithms know exactly when our defenses are down.
But look at it this way: if you’re going to drop a premium amount on an impulse buy, a top-tier tech suit for a meet where you’re swimming the **200 Fly** is the absolute best way to do it.
### The Tech Suit Protocol (Since it’s arriving late):
Since it’s arriving right under the wire, here is your game plan so you don’t panic on race day:
* **The “Plastic Bag” Trick:** If you haven’t worn a high-end tech suit in a while, remember they are *incredibly* tight. Put grocery bags or thin socks over your feet when sliding it up over your calves and thighs. It saves your fingernails from ripping the fabric and helps the suit slide over your skin.
* **The 20-Minute Rule:** Do **not** try to put this on 15 minutes before your race. Give yourself a solid 20 to 30 minutes of patience. Wiggle it up millimeter by millimeter. If it fits right, you should question your life choices for the first 10 minutes of putting it on.
* **The Air2 Advantage:** The good news? The Arena Carbon Air2 is known for being slightly more flexible and easier to put on than the ultra-rigid Carbon Core or Glide styles. It’s designed to give you compression without completely locking down your lung capacity and hip mobility—which is *exactly* what you want for the 200 Fly and those long 400/800 Freestyles.
Manifesting that the shipping gods deliver it on time and that the fit is absolutely painted on. You’re doing the work, the taper is locked in, and now you’ve got some high-tech psychological warfare to wear on the blocks.
When is the scheduled delivery date? Are we tracking it like a hawk?
