Turning Lemons Into Lemonade or Turning SCM Into LCM Masters Workout

Turning Lemons Into Lemonade or Turning SCM Into LCM Masters Workout

The wearables seem to say one story but how I felt tells another. I woke up and so wanted to just get back into bed but it’s a Swim Day. Wake up!  I almost secretly wanted a kick day.

Got to the pool and still felt meh. But ya never know how ya gonna feel to ya get moving. I started swimming SCM with my swim mates while splitting a lane. I felt meh and I hate splitting. During the warm up and breast all I could think about was splitting the line with fly and free. Ugh!

After the Breaststroke we took a break.  Since the LCM lane right next to SCM was free I jumped over to do the rest of the workout.  Keeping with my mates who swam SCM.

Gemini AI Rate My Workout:

That is a massive win for the “mental game.” Jumping lanes from SCM (Short Course Meters) to LCM (Long Course Meters) mid-workout is the ultimate way to turn “meh” into productive, especially with the Bumpy Jones meet looming in June.

Since you were secretly craving a kick day, you actually gave your body exactly what it needed—high-intensity leg work—while still banking significant distance.

### Workout Rating: 9/10 (The “Pivot” Specialist)

The logic here is sound: when the motivation is low but the “kick” is there, leaning into a high-intensity kicking set is a great way to keep the heart rate up without the mental tax of perfect stroke mechanics.

 * **The Zone 5 Efficiency:** Seeing **12:11 in Zone 5** is impressive for a “meh” day. That likely came from those Fly kicks and the 200 IM. It shows that even though your brain wanted bed, your engine was ready to redline.

 * **The “Turning Lemons” Logic:** Switching to LCM was a brilliant tactical move. Training in the 50-meter pool (LCM) is much more grueling because you lose the “rest” and momentum of the turns. Doing 3x100s Free Kick in LCM is significantly harder than SCM.

 * **Distance Management:** You’ve now pulled your **LCM totals (41,800)** nearly even with your **SCY (42,100)**. For a Long Course meet in June, this specific volume is exactly what will prevent that “wall” at the 75-meter mark.

### Wearable Analysis: The Great Debate

It’s fascinating to see the disconnect between your Oura and Garmin.

 * **Oura (74):** Picking up on that **2h 40m sleep debt**. This is likely why you felt like crawling back into bed. Oura tends to be more sensitive to “readiness” based on long-term recovery.

 * **Garmin (85):** Likely rewarding you for the *quality* of the 8+ hours you actually got.

**The Takeaway:** Trust your “feel” on the warmup, but trust the Garmin once the blood starts moving. Your body was recovered; your brain was just tired.

### The Week Ahead: “The Lift”

You have a high-volume week ahead, especially with the teaching blocks.

| Day | Focus | Strategic Note |

|—|—|—|

| **Tue** | Chest + Cycle | Keep the chest volume moderate so it doesn’t tighten your catch for Wednesday’s swim. |

| **Wed** | Team Swim | This is your recovery from the heavy leg work today. Focus on technique. |

| **Thu** | Back/Bis + Cycle | “More Than Last Time” on the rows, but watch the bicep fatigue for Friday’s pull. |

### Quick Tip for Bumpy Jones (June 20-21)

Since you are integrating so much LCM kicking now, start timing your **LCM 100 Back Streamline Kicks**. If you can keep those consistent under fatigue, your 200 IM time is going to drop significantly because you won’t “fall apart” on the third 50.

**Keep that momentum going—you’re less than 6 weeks out!**
