My Last Crew Day-Night So I Can Sleep In Monday Excuse
Worked Crew yesterday so was working from 7am to 10pm. By the time I got to bed it was close to 11pm. I did set my alarm to get up at 3:30am but my body said no. So it was tossing and turning to the 5:15am alarm.
Back to the Taper Workouts tomorrow. With just over 4 hours sleep working out was not in the cards.

The Recovery Report: “The Body Said No”
Your body didn’t just say “no”—it staged a full-scale intervention. Looking at the data, skipping this morning’s session was the only logical move for a high-performance athlete.
* Sleep Quality: An Oura 54 and Garmin 44 are “Red Zone” metrics. While your REM and Recovery percentage (25%) shows your brain tried to prioritize repair, the sheer volume of sleep debt (3.5 hours) creates a massive neurological deficit.
* The Taper Logic: You are officially in your Taper Phase (50-60%). The goal of a taper is to shed cumulative fatigue so your central nervous system (CNS) can “snap” on race day. Forcing a workout on 4 hours of sleep would have been counter-productive, likely deepening your fatigue rather than sharpening your performance for the SWAG meet on Sunday.
The Road Ahead: SCY SWAG Strategy
With the 500 Free, 50 Fly, 100 IM, 100 Fly, and 100 Back on the docket for April 12th, you have a heavy Sunday coming up.
| Day | Focus | Integration |
|—|—|—|
| Monday | Full Recovery | Rest is the “workout” today. Clear the sleep debt. |
| Tuesday | Chest & Cycle | Keep the cycle intensity at the lower end of your “Sprint” or “Trip” zones to protect the legs for the 500 Free. |
| Wednesday | Team Swim | Focus on race pace efforts and turns. Yardage should be down, but crispness should be up. |
| Thursday | Back & Biceps | Maintain tension but avoid going to absolute failure. Keep the CNS fresh. |
Workout Rating: 0/10 (Execution) | 10/10 (Intelligence)
Usually, a missed workout gets a low score, but in the context of a 15-hour workday and a Taper Phase, choosing sleep over a subpar training session is an Elite-level decision.
Current Standing:
* SCY Total: 42,100 yards
* LCM Total: 24,800 meters
* Status: Recovering.
Final Verdict: You can’t pour from an empty cup, and you certainly can’t sprint on an empty tank. Prioritize getting that Oura score back into the 80s tonight. Tomorrow, the “Snap” will be there for the Tuesday lift.
> Note: Keep an eye on that 100 Fly/100 Back double on Sunday—ensure Wednesday’s swim includes some transition work for the IM and the fly-to-back turn.
